Hi Everybody,
I am having 2 years of domain experience in SAP BASIS and also certified in C_TADM_51_04. Now I was tagged to another project where i have to work on XI implementation.
Can anybody tell me about XI.
What are the roles and responsibilities of an XI Consultant ?
Is it a good option to work on XI for an BASIS Consultant?
Thanks in advance

Hi Rajesh,
i want to know my roles and responsibilities.
>>As an SAP-BASIS ur role in SAP-XI other than development will be more into configuration side . there are certain runtime error's which may occur if we have'nt properly installed some of the java (jar files ) .....they may show some error message .this kind of error u can easily track .............what i know i said there may be some other roles and responsiblity also ........!
Regards,
Azeez khan.
if you are looking for sort of a counterpart role for basis then there is something called as an xi administrator. xi admin is supposed to kno the fundamental of development in xi... and is responsible for maintaing system, sizing , etc.
for this you can opt for the technology consultant track and you need to refer courses tbit 40, 50, and 51.
hope it helps!!
regards,
latika.
Hi Rajesh,
Welcome on board !!
It is good that you are switching to SAP XI and you already have prior work experiene in SAP on the basis side because I have come across a lot of guys, who have migrated from other technologies.
For implementing SAP XI scenario's we usually need to do a lot of configurations and need to understand the systems involved where your knowledge of BASIS will come handy.
As a SAP XI Developer you will be required to : Gather requirements, develop specifications and technical documentation. Perform requirement analysis and high and low level design. Perform the coding, testing and integration mapping Interface with onsite / offshore project teams ,sometimes responsible for developing java applications based on clients requirement specifications, preparing the technical design document, creating prototypes, analyzing and identifying performance bottle-necks, providing technical and user documentation and training to client, providing relevant data to the Module Leader for status reports both.
Responsibilities
Translate Business Requirements into XI Technical solution
Deliver quality integration scenarios within timelines and adhering to standards Duties
Work closely with functional team to understand business requirements
Work closely with application developers or business partners to ensure end-to-end scenario delivery
Support user acceptance and integration testing
Use Integration Builder tools to render scenarios incorporating best practice guidelines
Specific Skills
Real world XI experience on production development track
SAP project experience is ideal because of disciplined approach
Excellent knowledge of XI Integration Builder
Additional knowledge in ABAP, Java, or web technologies
Knowledge of XI runtime, pipeline, and execution environment
Ability to use XI monitoring and trace tools for debugging
Excellent communication and follow-through with colleagues and users
Excellent Knowledge of XI BPM/Business Integration tools
General Skills
Ability to use advanced message mapping, or Java, xslt, or abap mapping if necessary
General knowledge of business process in assigned area: e.g., CRM, financials, supply chain, HR, etc- this is more important in integration than any other single type of programming
Strongly recommended that the XI developer can also serve as SAP developer (RFC, ABAP object ) where possible- eliminates delays, finger pointing, multiple touchpoints of responsibility, duplication of explanation and so on. This approach greatly enhances the deliverables
