Hi Gurus
Our company want to upgrade SQL Server 2000 to 2005 but separately not on the same server where already SQL 2000 server is running online, we are purchasing new DELL server with 64 bit configuration.
So what procedures do we have to follow to upgrade it to 2005 which is on different 64 bit server .
1. do we need to copy all the database files off line from server 2000 to 2005 in new 64 bit server or after installing SQL 2005 , can I de-attach the 2000 database and attached to new SQL 2005 will that work.
2. will that be good to install 2000 first in 64 bit new server then copy the old server 2000 database and then run upgrade 2005.
Can anyone let me know which procedure will be good to upgrade it to new 64 bit server on windows 2003 server.
regards
Piroz

Hi,
I suggest you to go for clean installation rather then upgrade as your are having new hardware.
