Hello All,
I'm new to taking Database Backup on Tape Drive. I use DB13 to schedule Online Backup to Tape Drive.
I do not know how the process works. Can you tell me the conceptual things which take place while a Backup on tape is in progress. I know the process when it is on Disk. But the tape structure is not very known to me.
It would be good if you can explain it to me, or give a link which gives good understanding to a novice user in Tapes like me.
Thank you,
Bob.
For better understanding, check the log of your backup. You can understand how it has processed.

basically, brbackup wwrite a file on tape containing header information such as tape label, date of backup, number of times this tape was used.
then on another session, it writes all datafiles.
at last, it writes configuration files such as initSId.sap and initSID.ora
if you used online_cons, it will also backup offline redologs created during the backup run.

There's nothing you need to do when backing up on tape. Brbackup takes care of the things. You can't "browse" a tape like a filesystem.
