IMAP:- IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It is a method of accessing electronic mail or bulletin board messages that are kept on a (possibly shared) mail server. In other words, it permits a "client" email program to access remote message stores as if they were local
SMTP:- Simple mail Transfer protocol which is used for sending mail that is outgoing and for incoming mail we use POP3..............

hi gabriel,
these are transport protocols for receiving an email from XI. if u want to send email to an e-mail server use smtp. if u want to send email to a folder of ur mail server use imap. in my experience generally oraganizations don't give u access of a folder to put mail. so u can use smtp.
