Hi Neethu,

<u><b>Taxonomy Tables WRT Import manager:</b></u>

Source data tables may be representing an entire taxonomy, sometimes consisting of the hierarchy itself.

Importing a complete taxonomy – independently of main table records – is actually a multi-step operation that imports from multiple source tables into multiple destination tables, one at a time as follows:

There are several steps to be executed in order to IMPORT THE TAXONOMY which r :

a)Import the hierarchy into the taxonomy table.

b)Import the attributes into the attributes table.

c)Import the attribute text values into the attribute text values table. AND lastly

d)Import the node-specific attribute links into the attribute links table.

For each taxonomy table, the drop-down list of destination tables includes the taxonomy table in the third group of items and the three taxonomy-related tables in the last group

I hope the steps of importing taxonomy w.r.t IMPORT MANAGER solves your query. However further info available @

Hi Neethu,

Product categories and subcategories,<u> along with the attributes associated with them, are represented in an MDM repository as a hierarchy in a taxonomy table.</u> A taxonomy table is a special kind of lookup table that provides support not only for a hierarchy of category and subcategory records, but also for category-specific attributes that can be assigned to each category on a category-by-category basis.

<u>MDM supports multiple simultaneous taxonomies within a single MDM repository.</u>

<u><b>To Answer your question in wrt "console":</b></u>

In MDM you can use Taxonomy mode in which you can create and manage the category hierarchy, create and manage the pool of attributes, and assign attributes to categories on a category-by-category basis.

<u>Taxonomy mode also provides powerful functionality that allows you to flexibly restructure the taxonomy of a fully populated MDM repository</u> so that you can continue to refine your taxonomy even after it contains detailed information on thousands or even millions of objects.

<u><b>How To switch to Taxonomy mode:</b></u>

1)Click the Taxonomy Mode toolbar button, or press Ctrl + 3, or choose View Taxonomy Mode from the main menu.

To specify the current table:

2)Click on the drop-down table list (figure below) or press F4, and select the taxonomy table whose categories and attributes you want to view and edit.

3)Alternatively, choose View Table from the main menu and choose from the cascading menu of tables.

Plz note tht:Only taxonomy tables are available in Taxonomy mode.

<u><b>Adding a child/sibling to Taxonomy:</b></u>

1. In the taxonomy tree, select the category either: (1) after which you want the new category to appear as a sibling; or (2) under which you want the new category to appear as a child.

2. Right-click on the category and choose from the context menu, or choose Tree from the main menu and choose from the main menu, as follows:

Add Sibling

Add Child

3. MDM adds a new category named New Item either: (1) as a sibling of and just after the selected category; or (2) as the last child of the selected category, and highlights it for editing (figure below).

4. Type the name you want for the category and press Enter.

To understand constraints of Creating taxonomy :

I hope it will hint you to understand Taxonomy table in reference to console

Plz reward points if it helped.

Heii Neethu,

As per all heirarchies are taxonomy but all taxonomies are not heirarchies. <b>In Taxonomy We categories and subcategories the records in terms of their attributes at the last level.</b>

And Moreover

you can go through this :

hi Neethu,

procedure to import data into Taxonomy table:

Process Flow Overview

1. Launch MDM Import Manager.

2. Select the Source File to Import.

3. Select the Source and Destination Tables.

4. Import the hierarchy Table into the Taxonomy.

5. Import the Attributes Table.

6. Import the Attributes Text values.

7. Import the Attributes Links.

8. Verify the Results.

-

1. In your repository, you have taxonomy table;

for example, you have the fields in taxonomy table like:

fields : 1.category name: 2. definition

if your source data is like:

ex:

1.Consumables & Maintenance Solutions;cleaning, freshening&softening; cleaner;cleaner compounds

2.Safety Products;Personal Protection;Hand/Foot & Limb Protection

3.Hand, Power, Machine, & Measuring Tools;Assembly & Fastening;Wrenches;Manual Wrenches;Manual Wrench (units)

-

when you are doing import, follow these steps:

1. first you select the Category table as the source, and destination table as Category.

2. in the source hierarchy pane, right click on the category and set the delimiter as ( semicolon.

and again right click on the category and select split into hierarchy.

now you see, split hierarchy catetory in source hierarchy.

3. Then go to Map/field values.

4. in the source fields, you will find categories <split hierarchy field>, map this field to destination category,

5. then do the value mapping , In the Source values pane, Click on the “+” sign to the left of the “Categories” node to expand

6. In the Destination values pane, Click on the “+” sign to the left of the “Categories” node to expand

7. If your table already contains data, you will see the existing sub-nodes, But if your table is empty, you’ll only see a“<NULL>” node)

8. in the source value plane select the values, and in the destination select the category root note or any sub node, and click on ADD button,

you will find ( add as sibling, add as child, add branch as child, add branch as sibling),

select add branch as child/ sibling for your convinience.

9. then map the definition field,

10. go to Record matching tab. & execute the import action.

11. Log in to DATA Manager, --> go to Taxonomy mode and verify the results

hope this may help you,

hi,

1. When ever you create a new repository in the console, Taxonomy ( category table) automatically created.

Taxonomy Table:

Product categories and subcategories, along with the attributes associated with them, are represented in an MDM repository as ahierarchy in a taxonomy table. A taxonomy table is a special kind of lookup table that provides support not only for a hierarchy of category and subcategory records, but also for category-specific attributes thatcan be assigned to each category on a category-by-category basis.

By convention MDM often refers to this table as the Categories table.

Every product should belong to a category.

NOTE &#9658;&#9658; A product can belong to at most one leaf-node category.

Whereas the taxonomy table itself and the fields of each of its records are created and defined in the MDM Console, the hierarchy of product categories and their associated category-specific attributes are created and managed using the MDM Client in Taxonomy mode.

NOTE &#9658;&#9658; MDM supports multiple simultaneous taxonomies within a single MDM repository.

2. IN DATA Manager:

A taxonomy is a general term for classification scheme. The purpose of a taxonomy is to group like things together into categories, usually based on a set of common, category-specific characteristics, or attributes.

In the context of master data management, a taxonomy is what makes it possible to quickly locate a few specific records – or categories – in a database of thousands, tens of thousands, or even millions of records.

A taxonomy is usually hierarchical, meaning that some categories are subcategories of other categories.

(In the MDM system, taxonomytables are always hierarchical.) Most people are familiar, for example, with at least part of the hierarchical taxonomy used to classify animals, such as vertebrates &#1048774; mammals &#1048774; primates &#1048774; chimpanzees, and so on.

Another example that you might experience in your daily life isgroceries &#1048774; beverages &#1048774; carbonated &#1048774; decaffeinated. Each level of the hierarchy gets narrower in terms of what it includes.

MDM uses a hierarchical taxonomy of categories to structure master data in an MDM repository.

hope this may help you,
