Oracle 10G error - while installing 4.6C

Former Member
0 Kudos

Dear all,

I have tried installing 4.6c directly in oracle 10g in a HPUXIA64 server.

I followed the note 946141 and did the central instance and also installed Oracle and upgrade it to 10.2.0.2 then applied the interim patches.

After applying the interim patches I started the DATABASE.R3S file and it has loaded the data successfully and also statistics update was done successfully.

But it fails to start the database. when I checked the alert log it says.

ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure

ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option

Wed Dec 5 21:54:29 2007

Error 704 happened during db open, shutting down database

USER: terminating instance due to error 704

Can anyone help me to solve this issue

Senthil

You have to run the upgrade scripts, if you have patched ORACLE after SAP installation.

Does anyone have the installation document for sap 4.6c in oracle 10g?

I am facing lots of issues. I have executed the post upgrade steps and now able to start the database and also load the database.

After loading when its prompts for asking the password for the users. It says that SAPSR3 user does not exist.

It also says SAPUSER table not found. I am not sure where I went wrong.

Can anyone help me with the steps needs to be performed for installation of 4.6c in oracle 10g, in HPIA64 environment

Thanks

The user is "SAPR3" (without the ´s´) this was the default at time of 4.6c (check the official installation documentation).

Apart from the you seem to be done.

- install BR*TOOLS 7.00 (for Oracle 10g)

- For the SAPUSER problem check note 700548 - FAQ: Oracle authorizations

You´re done

Dear Markus,

Thank you for your response.

Please note there is not table by name sapuser created at all and also there is no user SAPR3 or SAPSR3 create at all.

I have checked it on the dba_users table.

I have checked the note 700548, but it was mentioned about the table missing.

Can you pl help.

Also I am listing down the steps I followed for this installation. (It might be useful for other consultants also).

Steps followed:

1. Installing Central Instance (4.6C SR2)

2. On completion of CI, Updating the kernel with 4.6C EXT2 files

3. Installing oracle 10.2.0.1

4. Stopping db & listener

5. Applying Patchset 10.2.0.2

6. Applying all the interim patches available

7. starting database in upgrade mode and running the post upgrade scripts catupgrd.sql & utlrp.sql(optional)

8. Shutting down the database

9. Starting up the database & listener

10. Installing Database Instance

After installing the database instance, its asks for the password for the user SAPSR3, when I issued the password, it says SAPSR3 user not available and also the table sapuser is not available.

Pl help

I wonder how you were able to do that.

If you follow the documentation, there simply is no database at that point to run the dictionary script against. Did you install a "default database" with the Oracle installer? Did you execute the "RUNINSTALLER" from the SAP directory of the Oracle CD or the normal Oracle installer?

I just ran the runinstaller from the /oracle/stage/102_64/Disk1/runInstallar path.

Is that wrong?

Yes.

SAP uses a response file to configure most of the database. If you buy your Oracle license with your SAP system you're not permitted to use all of the features that come with the default installation and thus the response file.

There's a subdirectory called "SAP" under Disk1 with a capital "RUNINSTALLER". This will prepare the database configuration for a SAP system.

The database itself is created by R3SETUP itself, not by runinstaller/dbca and R3SETUP also runs the sql scripts automatically.

What happend in your previous installation was:

- you created a database with the target <SID>

- you installed patchset 10.2.0.2

- R3SETUP detected, that there is already a database with the name it should create

- R3SETUP tried to startup the database and "clean" it

- this failed because the dictionary data was not updated after the installation of 10.2.0.2

The correct way would be to NOT create a database and let R3SETUP do that for you (and all the script running etc.)

Thank you for your wonder reply Markus.

Now I am redoing the steps. Can you pl correct me, the steps.

1. Installing Central Instance (4.6C SR2)

2. On completion of CI, Updating the kernel with 4.6D EXT2 files

3. Installing oracle 10.2.0.1 (RUNINSTALLER under SAP Directory)

4. Stopping db & listener

5. Applying Patchset 10.2.0.2

6. Applying all the interim patches available

7. starting database in upgrade mode and running the post upgrade scripts catupgrd.sql & utlrp.sql

8. Shutting down the database

9. Starting up the database & listener

10. Installing Database Instance

If I follow the above steps will it be ok, can you pl correct me

Thanks & Regards

ِAlmost

1. Installing Central Instance (4.6C SR2)

2. On completion of CI, Updating the kernel with 4.6D EXT2 files

3. Installing oracle 10.2.0.1 (RUNINSTALLER under SAP Directory)

(4. Stopping db & listener) -

there is neither a listener nor a db to stop. You just install the software, not listener configuration, no database creation. Just installing and linking Oracle, that´s all.

5. Applying Patchset 10.2.0.2
6. Applying all the interim patches available
(7. starting database in upgrade mode and running the post upgrade scripts catupgrd.sql & utlrp.sql)

Same goes here - there´s no database to run the scripts

(8. Shutting down the database)

Nothing there to shutdown

(9. Starting up the database & listener)

no database and no listener to start

10. Installing Database Instance

R3SETUP will create a database, run all necessary scripts and start the database load.

The problem seems to be, that there are some files left in some directories, that have not correct permissions.

Try the following:

- shutdown all oracle related processes (

ps -ef | grep ora

)

-

rm -rf /var/tmp/.oracle

-

rm -rf /tmp/.oracle

-

chown ora<SID>:dba /var/opt/oracle

Then try again to start the listener.

Thank you Markus.

Actually our task is to install 4.6c in Oracle 10g /HPUX IA64.

Then migrate 4.6c/oracle9i/solaris to our newly installed 4.6c/oracle10g/HPUXIA64

After which I need to do an upgrade from 4.6c to ECC6.0

I might require your help, during my upgrade process also. Now I am preparing for the upgrade. I am going thru the upgrade documents and notes in the sap market place.

*Do you have any other upgrade specific document which can help me. We are using vertex in our environment

I would not "install 4.6c" and then "migrate" but do this in one step:

- Export the source system via R3load

- Import it into the target system

This will give you the advantage of not doing everything twice and you will get a good database reoganization also.

Keep in mind that operating system migration need a certified migration consultant on-site, otherwise you will loose support for the target system (see also http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration).

Markus,

We are using HPSTM tools for the migration purpose, we have a certified migration consultant to do this activity.

After the migration completes, then I will start the upgrade from 4.6c to ECC 6.0 work.

Since we need to upgrade database to 10g, we have installed 4.6c on oracle 10g directly and then do a migration from 4.6c/oracle9i to 4.6c/oracle 10g.

Initially we are doing this activity on a sandbox(copy of development).

Steps Involved:

Source : 4.6c/oracle9i/solaris

Target : ECC6.0/Oracle10g/HPUX-IA64

1. We installed 4.6c / oracle 10g in the HPUX IA64 box (Target System)

2. Migrate the source system (4.6c/oracle9i/solaris) to target using HPSTM tools

3. Upgrade the target system from 4.6c/oracle10g/hpux to ECC6.0/oracle10g/hpux11.23

Also you have mentioned that to export 4.6c via R3load, but we are doing a server/OS migration also.

Thank you for your reply

Thanks & Regards

Senthil

I´m not really sure if it´s supported to do an OS migration without R3load. Each operating system has it´s own way of storing binary files (blocksizes etc.), I´m not sure if you can just "restore" your backup taken on Solaris DLT and restore it into HP-UX.

With Oracle 10g you have "transportable tablespaces" (see Oracle metalink 291024.1), this feature is not available on 9i.

A "migration" is done as a normal installation, you just give the path to your previous export instead of the export CDs delivered by SAP. You can´t "migrate" into an already installed instance.

See http://service.sap.com/systemcopy, what you do is a heterogeneous migration of an operating system and thus you need to use R3load. The database VERSION is not relevant here.

Thanks Markus.

I shall discuss the same with out migration consultant.

But my understanding is that with HP STM (Migration Tool), we can migrate database across different platforms.

This tool creates some scripts (For import, export, table creation..etc.) between the source and the target system.

After which we need to run a schedular, which will execute the scripts like

1. It deletes the contents in the target system

2. creates the tablespace, datafiles..etc. in the target system

3. Import, copy & export data between the source and the target system

But while doing this we have got a error message like

Yes - you can technically do that - but it´s not supported.

ORA-02063: preceding 5 lines from R3S_OLD

This can happen because your SYSTEM tablespace on the target system is not big enough.

If you use the R3load procedure, R3SETUP will take care of the correct database size, will enable all features that are supported by default (Automatic Undo, ASSM, LMTS etc.) AND you will have the possibility of opening OSS calls to get help. If you do this using other tools you will be on your own in case of problems.
