Dear all

Let me tell you some thing. I have got different answers for this but i haven't fell that much strong. Please give me a solution in detail with examples. I think there are 200+ other middleware tools avail apart from XI. If you can provide comparison with others it will be very much helpful.

Hi Ganesh M ,

These r some unique benefits of XI which make it different from other middleware tools :

As SAP XI comes with pre-configured integration content, the client has gained significant benefits. Some of these benefits include:

1)Reduced maintenance costs: As the client replaced multiple integration technologies with SAP XI, it gained immediate cost savings by reducing associated maintenance costs. Additionally, the client gained the capability to utilize its manpower more effectively.

2) Enhanced message monitoring functionality: As SAP XI provides auto handling of persistence of messages, it has enabled the client to monitor and restart failed messages. This has also eliminated the possibility of redundant/duplicate data into the system along with related efforts to identify the same. As all messaging is routed through one system, the client needs to monitor only SAP XI instead of having to monitor four systems: (Web Application system, XML parser application, VB based application) in the existing set up

3) Enhanced flexibility: The ability to modify applications and add new functionalities without impacting other systems and businesses gave the client tremendous flexibility in reacting to dynamic changes in the market.

4)The SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) offered the most compelling option for the client for reducing the time and cost of integration efforts.

5)SAP XI was chosen as the middleware solution as it could help the client in reducing the level of manual monitoring and maintenance of custom built interfaces through standardized interfaces and automated data mapping facilities.

6)SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure (XI)itelligence is Special Expertise Partner SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure (SAP NW XI).

7)To gain maximum benefit from customer and vendor relationships, a solution is needed that can design flexible, lean business processes within and between companies. Inter-enterprise collaboration is enabled by the exchange of business documents based on various EDI message standards (including UN/EDIFACT, TRADACOM and VDA). Previously, a large number of different software and hardware components were required to meet this demand and it was difficult to monitor the complete message flow.

With the SAP middleware component – SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure (SAP NW XI) – SAP supports the integration process and enables the efficient connection of business partners. SAP NW XI is a powerful, comprehensive and open integration solution that connects different systems with adapters and monitors the message transport centrally in its role as a central data hub. itelligence developed the it.x-change EDI solution on the basis of this standard.

8)Access over 300 packaged applications, data sources, middleware technologies, and e-business formats and protocols –with virtually no custom integration

code required

9) Shorten development cycles and reduce training expenses by decreasing the number of interfaces programmers need to know

10)implement cross-system business processes

11)integrate different versions of SAP and non-SAP systems

12)based on an open architecture (XML and Java)

General Query:

My company is a manufacturing concern. Recently implemented SAP and wanted to implement SAP SD self billing concept.

my questions are ?

1: SAP XI is like an EDI sub system? we are going to buy either 3rd party software or XI rite? is it costly ? and what are the skills required like ABAP, functional consultant ?

Comparison of XI with TIBCO

1) Tibco does publish/subscribe very well. There is no such concept in XI. You can however "fake" pub/sub

2) Has many adapters that are Tibco built..SAP relies on other vendors except for a few

3) Tibco does not have asynch SOAP/HTTP. XI does

4) Tibco UI is much more matured than XI. Simple and productive techniques (for example a JDBC adapter has ways of verifying connection etc..) Lot less features in XI

5) Concept of integration in terms of semantics and steps is a little more complex in XI

6) XI's monitoring, message level trace, message resubmission, pipelining, components monitoring are way ahead of Tibco.

7) XI lacks took like BW Tester to test the process before deployment ("activation")

😎 XI - no need to message with stupid ledger files like Tibco . It is much more clean

9) The process of deployment is easy in XI.. No need to worry about multiple moving components

Bottomline:

XI is evolving but it is a question of time when they clean up the weaknesses and catch/beat TIBCO

Hi,

you might also like to take a look at this blog where the comparisons of XI and Oracle adapters are depicted

hi ganesh,

using or not using XI for integration depends on many factors... majorly ur landscape. so its not always advisable to use xi to integrate diff systems. we have to first analyse the current landscape and future requirements and then propose a solution. of course there are a lot of middlewares available in market and one has come to a solution based on the analysis.

i wud also say that yes there are enormous benefits of xi also as compared to other middleware specially in a landscape where sap plays a mojor role becoz they come from same vendors so u wnt have incimpatibility issue and major advantage being the predelivered integration content apart from various others.

have a look at an extract below:

"

Differences bet biztalk and xi:

- SAP XI is largely based on J2EE (+ proprietary ABAP)

while BizTalk 2004 is completely built on .Net

(as opposed to its predecessors that were COM based)

- XI comes with more (technical) adapters in the box:

POP: Biztalk only supports SMTP

JMS: Biztalk only supports MSMQ and MQSeries

JDBC: BizTalk can only talk to SQL Server

- BizTalk has support for EDI, which is completely lacking in SAP XI

- SAP XI allows the use of XSLT but prefers its own event-driven (but

somewhat limited) message mapping solution

(the use of a 3rd party XSLT graphical mapper like Sonic StylusStudio is

an alternative)

BizTalk uses XSLT as its mapping technology and comes with a full blown

XSLT graphical mapper

- SAP XI is more resource hungry than BizTalk

- SAP XI is more complex and has a steeper learning curve

BizTalk is Microsoft-based therefore limited to one environment. It is

however cheaper and simpler to use for less complicated scenarios.

Why do we need XI

1. right now you are using point to pont to connection which is not the best way.

2. XI is a middleware tool (you can send message to many apdaters:

SOAP, mail, file/ftp ) by XML messages .

3. Error handling and Sloving the error easrier.

4.Integrate with SAP and Non SAP applications..........

5.XIhas it's own Monitoring to track the incoming and outgoing messages

6.Synchronous and Asynchronous communication

7.Reusable components

8.Reducing cost of development work in future

9.End to End montoring the messages in SAP XI is great

10.Maintance is easeir .

11.The biggest Advantage of XI is that it supports web services.

12.It has the feature of business process management(BPM) which enables us to impliment tough business logic.

Technical Benefits of XI 3.0 are:

1. Centralized Collaboration of Knowledge

2. Easier (and Cheaper) Cross-component integration

3. Facilitates implementation of Industry Standards

4. Enables Cross-Component BPM

5. Web Services Support

6. Simpler Cross-connectivity through Adapters

7. Improved Monitoring

There are lot of middlware technologies availabe.

WEBMETHODS- Webmethods

Cross World -IBM

WEBLogic Intergator-BEA

WEBSphere Inregration-IBM

Seebehyond-SUN

Meractor

Vitria

TIBCO

Seeburger

Seibel

Everyone is having its own Functionality...

But the main advantage of XI over other middleware tools is that XI provides you with central routing and central monitoring of messages
