J2EE Synchronizing Binaries

Former Member

Greetings all

I'm in desperate need of assistance here. I've got an EP6 installation running on WAS 6.40. The install worked fine, it's been running for some time now without a problem.

Now however, the J2ee won't restart. The JControl.exe just sits in "Synchronizing Binaries" for ever, and will not complete. I have left it running for days, and it will not finish.

I can't find any errors to show me any problems, and have logged it with SAP. I was hoping someone here may have some advice on the matter...

Thanks in advance to any responses...

Cheers

Is there enough free space on your filesystem? What database are your using? Check whether your tablespaces are full. This shouldn't happen with MSSQL, but I've seen it happen with DB2 and Oracle.

Hello Kynan,

Do you see any errors in the log files of the bootstrap process in the work directory? Can you check if your database is fully operational? You may check the database logs as well.

Kind Regards

Hi Vyara

Thanks for the reply.

No errors in the bootstrap logs, the database is up and running with no errors or warnings.

I would have thought there would be an error in there somewhere, but there is none.

Thanks

Hello Kynan,

Did you report an OSS message? The best way to debug the problem will be to create a thread dump of the hanging java process and check all the log files. Unfortunately you are not able to attach all logs to the SDN. As the only function of the bootstrap is to synchronize the data from the database I suspect a problem with the database. Did you try to restart the Engine once again?

Kind Regards

Hi All

I have logged an OSS message, and waiting to hear back.

I'm using MSSQL and there is plenty of room remaining. I have checked the database logs and there are no errors. I have restarted it many times over the past few days, and each time it just hangs at the same point.

Vyara, how do I create a thread dump of the process?

Also, what is the best way to check the connection to the database? From everything that I have heard, it's looking more and more likely that it's a problem with that.

Which memory settings would most impact the bootstrap process synchronizing?

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Ok, I ran a netstat and found that it was looking at a gateway on another SAP server on our network. So i removed that server from the host file and services file. This allowed it to continue past the Synchronizing Binaries stage.

It then had memory issues, but I have got around that.

Thanks to all that replied, it's good to know that help is there when we need it.

Cheers

Kynan
