SRM 5.0 Vs 6.0 Vs 7.0

Hi,

We have been using Ariba for the past few years. But would like to move to SRM to leverage our R/3 implementations. I have been reading a lot of literature on SRM and also attended a sales pitch and I am quite confused.

If I understand correctly, SRM 5.0 is in GA. SRM 6.0(or SRM 2007) is in Rampup and will never reach GA as SRM 7.0 will come along in Q42008.

I know that the Frictionless acquisition has influenced these decisions.

But my questions are :

- What are the key differeces between 5.0/6.0/7.0 ? In terms of functionality, modules, etc ?

- What are the advantages of SRM 7.0 over 5.0 or 6.0 ?

- Where does Frictionless esourcing fit in this landscape ?

- If I am planning to move to SAP, should I consider 5.0 or just wait for 7.0 in Q4,2008.

Pl advice

Another highpoint of the workshop is that Capgemini has been chosen to be a ramp-up Customer for SAP SRM 7.0 Solution. For Capgemini, this is an added feather to its cap and Capgemini will already have a reference implementation when SAP announces un-restricted shipment of the Solution offering.

It was indeed a great sight to see several of the SAP partners come under one roof and it also provided for a good opportunity to network and extend our contacts to build future partnerships/business relationships. And myself being ex-collage of SAP and also being the part of the SRM 7.0 Development within SAP, along with Edwin and Martin capitalized on this.

For the participants, the workshop couldn't have been better timed for it also added to the Christmas cheer and festive glitter.

To sum up, It was a very good learning experience and indeed a delight to interact with so many key partner members. The workshop acted as a window to the SRM 7.0 Ramp-up initiative and am sure it will open many doors for all of us in Capgemini. It gives us more reasons to celebrate while ushering in the New Year!!

Hi,

Here is the latest update from SAP regarding SRM 6.0 and future releases.

-

Oct 15, 2007

Dear Customer and or Partner

This communication is designed to help you understand our planned next steps with the release of SAP Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) 2007.

Summary

SAP is moving ahead with our Business Suite strategy which SRM is a key component. This strategy requires significant development, coordination and resources. As a result we have had to make a decision on balancing our continued investment in SRM 2007 against the importance of SRM 7.0 included as part of the Business Suite release.

After reviewing all potential options we have decided that the best path forward is for the SRM 2007 release to only be shipped to customers that have already been identified as part of our SRM 2007 Ramp-Up program.

We are therefore advising all other customers to start any new projects on the proven SRM 2005 release and then to upgrade to a future version of SRM. This next upgrade could be to SRM 7.0 included as part of the Business Suite release either as part of the SRM 7.0 Ramp-Up program or with general availability in 2009.

We strongly believe that our customers will benefit from the value proposition of SRM 7.0 included as part of the Business Suite release and the planned SRM investments into the overall procure to pay process.

Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) 2007

The SAP SRM 2007 release represents continued investment by SAP in SRM including improvements to the user interface and a new business rule framework (BRF).

We continue to make progress towards our SRM 2007 SP03 milestone in the areas of quality and performance. As a result we are on schedule to deliver SP03 on December 10th, 2007.

Yet, because of our decision to focus our efforts on the importance of delivering on SRM 7.0 included as part of the Business Suite release we have decided that SRM 2007 will only be shipped to customers that have already been identified as part of our SRM 2007 Ramp-Up program. We will fully support these customer’s efforts to go live on SRM 2007.

A core KPI of our SRM 2007 Ramp-Up program continues to be the importance of successful customers on the release coupled with our own field readiness.

Only in extremely exceptional cases will requests be accepted for additional customers to be included in the SRM 2007 Ramp-Up program.

Supporting Information

Customers with existing SRM 2007 Projects – These customers will receive maintenance on SRM 2007 according to the 5-1-2 framework.

New Customers – Recommend that customers interested in starting projects now should start their projects on the proven SRM 2005 release. Those customers that have a project start date beginning in Q4’2008 should target SRM 7.0 which is included as part of the Business Suite release either as part of the SRM 7.0 Ramp-Up program or with general availability in 2009.

SRM 3.0 and Below Customers – Recommend that customers on versions up to and including SRM 3.0 interested in upgrading to start any new projects on the proven SRM 2005 release and then to upgrade to a future version of SRM. This next upgrade could be to SRM 7.0 included as part of the Business Suite release either as part of the SRM 7.0 Ramp-Up program or with general

availability in 2009.

SRM 4.0 – Recommend that SRM 4.0 customers upgrading to start any new projects on the proven SRM 2005 release and then to upgrade to a future version of SRM. This next upgrade could be to SRM 7.0 included as part of the Business Suite release either as part of the SRM 7.0 Ramp-Up program or with general availability in 2009.

SRM 2005 Customers – Recommend that SRM 2005 customers take the next step to upgrade to a future version of SRM based on their planned upgrade project schedule. This next upgrade could be to SRM 7.0 included as part of the Business Suite release either as part of the SRM 7.0 Ramp-Up program or with general availability in 2009.

SRM 6.0 has changed their techinical platform by getting rid of the Internal ITS and are using the ABAP WEB Dynpro from the UI screens. Due this technological platform change, the Upgrade costs will bee certainly higher compared to an Upgrade from SRM 3.0 to SRM 4.0 or SRM 5.0. Also to face the unknown.

The SRM 6.0 is still not matured and there are a number of issues that SAP is working with their ramp up customers to mature the product. Version SRM 7.0 will be probably a better product and i wouldnt not advise to upgrade to this version till you see SP5 or SP6 is out, as SRM 6.0 currently if filled with a number of bugs and would be expected the same in SRM 7.0.

Hi Disha,

Thanks for your prompt response. I have seen that Oct15 release from SAP. You pointed out that the technology platform is different. However I am still unclear on the difference in terms of modules/functionality.

Unfortunately I cannot access many of the documents as it seems restricted. Can you email me the relevant documents at wadivkarts@hotmail.com ?

Based on the presentations from SAP I believe SRM7.0 will be a new look and feel like eSourcing (Frictionless).

It is sure that CLM (Contract life cycle management) will be same as from eSourcing.

Hope Self service procurement may be same as SRM.

Regarding Bidding and Live Auction not sure whether same as SRM or eSourcing. Because even eSourcing is having all these functionalities.

But finally the functionalities remain same except with some cosmetic and navigational changes.

Additional functionality will be CLM which was not there in SRM so far.

So let us wait and see what SAP is going to deliver...SRM or eSourcing or Twins )
