Hi All
How much development work is required in typical SAP XI projects where integration is limited to SAP products only (e.g BW, ECC, SRM).
Is XI development means actually writing Code in Java or just configuration using SAP provided tools.
Thanks you all
Hi
It all depends on the scenario and the requirements.Sometimes it takes only 1-2 hours and when it requires extensive codings than it might take longer. It also depends on your expertise to handle things.
Thanks

Hi julio puppert ,
XI is maximum configuration work but if u know java it's a added advantage & some times there arises a need to import JAVA code into XI to achieve the functionality using UDF(user defined functions)
These r some excellent websites which make u understand what is XI & wt r the scenarios which we come across in XI:

Julio,
XI is more of configuration. It does not require high end coding skills. It is basically using the SAP provided tools to organise systems in the landscape, create the frame work for a scenario (which might need a bit of coding in core Java, ABAP or XSLT for mappings) and configuration of thes objects for the scenario.
Best designed scenarios obviously take lesser time but with the SWLC, an average scenario might take one week to 10 days.

Hi Julio,
In terms of XI dev there are a number of senarios,Some basic and complexs.
as per your reequirement you can use the Java code or tools.
In MAPPING you can use JAVA code.that wolud be easy for complex senarios.
As there are two stacks in XI
1. ABAP Stack
2. JAVA Stack(Adapter engine) For any change in Java stack you can use JAVA.
You can use XSLT as well for mapping.
XI mainly deals with XML.But java is used many times.
i have some basic senarios for you just have a look and do.
It will help you to understand XI and use of JAVA in mapping.
Following are the links to weblogs which will help to develop the basic scenarios.

it all depends upon the scenario, you can finish off a simple scenario in 1-2 hrs and a more complex one might take several days, also as far as configurations are concerned we mostly use SAP standard tools but in some cases you may have to use Java mappings/develop Java modules etc if the standard functionality doesn't solve your purpose completely
Thanx
Aamir
