The EPCglobal specification for SAVANT is an old classification. The revised connotations are Filtering and Collection, EPCIS Capturing application, EPCIS Repository, and EPCIS Accessing application. In addition, EPCglobal does not write specifications on what these are to do, but provides guidance as to their purpose. Each software manufacturer can design their applications in whatever way they want; however, what they should do is support the way information is communicated. That is what EPCglobal writes specs about - how the different components of the RFID ecosystem communicate. Where it be tags to readers, readers to device management software, device management software to EPCIS Repositories, etc... SAP's RFID solution role is across the capturing application through to the accessing applications.
