Also these message packages are used to process and send messages from the IDoc adapter as packages rather than individually.

Hi,

As we know that all Messages that enter into XI are converted to an XML format.

If you dont want to do this conversion than <b>IDOC tunneling</b> is an option in which , we can avoid this conversion of IDOC into an XML format. It is used only in IDoc ot Idoc sceanrio. It improves the perfromance.

Take a look at these blogs,

Hi,

IDOC Tunelling.

The concept of idoc tunneling comes in to existance when we have to send the idoc

From one SAP application system to another without any mapping or conversion.

Since when an idoc is sent from one SAP application system to another without any mapping or conversion there is no need to generate an idoc-xml in SAP XI .

The benefit of this scenario is that it increases the overall performance of the SAP XI system and leads to faster processing.

How can you configure such a scenario?

Only one step:

- go to TCODE - SXMB_ADM

- Integration Engine configuration

- set the XML_CONVERSION parameter to value 2

Possible Values (from the Help)

a) 0 - Every IDoc is saved as a table; no IDoc-XML conversion

b) 1 - Every IDoc is converted to IDoc-XML

c) 2 - An IDoc is converted to IDoc-XML if requested by the service

IDOC Tunneling:

Idoc Packaging:

Consider a file to IDOC scenario, where 1 file will contain multiple IDOCs. So, you need to send these multiple IDOC s to R3 system.

Now, one way would be to use a BPM, but a better way is to use the PACKAGINg where these multiple IDOCs are packaged as one IDOC and then on R3 , there are unpacked into multiple IDOCs.

Development:

IDoc packaging is a technique used to generate, for example, many IDocs from a unique source structure as an XML document.

In the Message Mapping you can use an External Definitions as Message Type instead of the SAP imported IDoc Message Type. This external definition is the same of the IDoc Message Type, but it has a different occurrence proprierty of the field IDOC. The occurrence will be 1...unbounded instead of 1..1. Next, it is important to use the real SAP imported IDoc Message Type in the Interface Mapping component.

Refer the weblog for the same:

Hi

IDOC tunneling is used when we need to pass an IDOC without any XMl conversions

EG IDOC to IDOC scenario where XI will just be used for monitoring

Hi keerti,

Messages that enter XI are converted to an XML format. So, if an IDOC is sent from an R3 system , it is converted into an XML message.

IDOC tunelling is an option in which , you can avoid this conversion of IDOC into an XML format.

if you need to do an IDOC to IDOC scenario where XI will jus be used for monitoring.

In these cases, by using IDOC tunelling, we can avoid the conversion of IDOC in to XML and therby imrove perfromance.
