NWIM Cookbook or how to guide

As IM is a relatively new subject, has anyone come across any cookbooks, how to guides or anything to quickly get you started with a simple scenerio of integrating an R/3 System, J2EE UME and possibly and LDAP ?

The help guides delivered with the software are poor.

I would love to assist, but have only got as far as documenting the install so far !

Having not been on the RKT, I'm looking for a fast route in getting something up and running in absense of any any good documentation from SAP.
