what is the importance of maintainng the industry sector in MM01.

If we choose some other industry sector also we can create the material.So what are the benifts of using Industry Sector.

The industry sector determines:

Which screens appear and in which order

Which industry specific fields appear on each screen

The industry sector you assign to a material can not subsequently be changed.

Hi,

You use the industry sector to determine which fields require an entry when maintaining material master data and which fields do not (an entry being optional in this case).

You can define that a particular industry sector is proposed whenever the user creates a material master record. However, this setting cannot be made for the material master for retail since retail is itself the industry sector.

You can hide the industry sector if you do not want the user to change it. SAP will take the default Industry sector you specify in the IMG.

SAP gives the following for Material Master Record :

Material Type which Controls -

No' Range, - int/ext numbers

Screen selection,

field selection,

Quantity update

Value Update,

Type of Procurement.

Industry sector which controls

No' range, int/ext numbers,

Screen selection.

If you go in IMG - Logistics General - Material Master, you will be able to know the links of each thoroughly.
