oracle migration from little endian to big on power

Dear community,

We need to move several databases from Intel X86 (little endian) platform to

IBM Power (big endian) platform.

Oracle 10.2.0.2 will be used on both source and target.

Suse Linux (SLES) 10 is used on both source and target.

R/3 is ERP 2005 (NW04s) with kernel version 700.

I have been told that I have to perform a heterogenous system copy/migration in order to accomplish my goal(move to new platform and change endian).

Can anyone confirm if this is necessary or if there is another (simpler) possibility, perhaps by using an oracle procedure to convert the database ?

Best wishes, Eirikur.

What you want to do is a heterogeneous system migration and implies, that a certified migration consultant is on-site.

Check

http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration

And yes, the only supported way of doing this is export/import (http://service.sap.com/systemcopy)

Dear Marcus,

thank your for your your comment.

Since I wrote my question I have received an update from IBM competency centre indicating that I do not have to perform a heterogenous migration. Instead I have to perform a homogenous system copy by means of r3load, which handles the endian conversion.

My os and db stay the same and this is why it is a homogenous copy.

Rgds, Eirikur.

Yes - they are right - I was not reading your message correctly.

You are migrating from Linux/X86 to Linux/Power.

And yes, R3load will do the necessary steps.

Sorry for confusion.
