SAP NW CE 7.1: Start Debug Session... vs. Enable Debugging

Hello,

first of all:

What's the fundamental differences between Start Debug Session... in NWDS - SAP MMC Perspective and Enable Debugging in MMC?

Why does the jstart.EXE go in status Some Processes running when I do Start Debug Session... in NWDS? If I do this I got a lot of exception for example if I execute JNDI lookups. But it's describes in ce library http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/45/e4fa02855c2e97e10000000a155369/frameset.htm to enable debugging in NWDS.

If I enable debugging in MMC I have no problems.

Regards,

Armin

Hi Armin,

The main difference is that Enable Debugging does only switch the VM to debug mode, while Start Debug Session also provides different levels of protection for the server infrastructure, e.g. excludes the server from load balancing in the instance. This is also why you see the jstart.exe in yellow (status Some Processes running) although the server is actually running but in debug mode. So, you cannot request or deploy to it, and hence the exceptions you get. More information about this behavior is available here.

HTH!
