NWDI User Module Development How To Guide???

Former Member

Hi All,

Does anyone know of an updated how-to guide or blog that guides XI developers how to create user-modules within NWDI for deployment? Although the below how-to is useful, best practices should use NWDI for all JAVA development and deployments but unfortunately, all XI developers I deal with have very little exposure to NWDI.

<a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/02706f11-0d01-0010-e5ae-ac25e74c4c81">Link to old how-to document</a>

It would be also good to understand best practices. For example, should I create a DC external Library project within a different track than the XI track and just make this a dependency within the XI track so that it does not get accidentally deployed to the XI system overwriting the current versions within XI systems?

Thanks,

Matt

Great question.. One guy who I think would / should know the answer would be Stefan Grube..

For instance, last Teched there was a presentation on adapter modules and the guide published then was by Stefan and team and it was one of the simplest and easiest guides for adapter modules I have seen..

Stefan , r u around to answer this question?

In fact the Teched exercide was written by William Li.

I will work on a new guide for PI 7.1 soon, as the NWDI 7.1 looks totally different, but the principles are the same and you get used to it quickly.

The guide is not intended to give an overview of NWDI and the development components and I am not the right person to give any advise on this.

You are being to modest here Stefan

I guess I have never had the chance to work on NWDI etc but it is on my to do list for some reading. My transport startergy for Modules ( have written only 2 so far ) has been to deploy it manually in each landscape from the SDM. Not the best way I know

Thanks Stefan. This would be perfect and regardless of NWDI version itself, the approach should be similar enough for me to roll out across other XI Developers. I too am not expecting you to train developers in JAVA or NWDI, just give them the guidance on how to do this correctly.

So I've given you 6 points but 10 points is up for grabs...If someone wants to write a quick blog and refer me to that, it would be a quick 50+ points all up. Go on Michael K - I know you want to...It's the only missing thing from your FAQ

Thanks all for your responses.

Matt

ps. Out of interest Stefan, will PI 7.1 come with a SCA file for deploying to NWDI for easy module development without the need for external library projects?
