Hi Amit
In a simple language <b>Xi </b>is a middleware which is use for integration between SAP to SAP ,SAP to Non SAP..
<b>XI</b> enables us to implement cross-system processes. It enables us to connect systems from different vendors (non-SAP and SAP) in different versions and implemented in different programming languages (Java, ABAP, and so on) to each other.
<b>Message</b> reached with the help of Adapters -- File , JDBC, RFC..etc that depends on the scenario........

Dear Amit
1. What is XI? How does XI work? How does communication and conversion take place using XI?
-In simple language XI is a middleware i.e. it is acting like a translator/messenger between two people.
-working is simple sender is sending a message receiver is receiving a message but for sender and receiver depend on XI it take message from sender and give to receiver irrespective of format
2. How does message reach from Application system to XI?
-Through communication channel
3. What is Heterogeneous and homogenous environment?
-Heterogeneous means they are not similar for e.g. SAP to NonSAP and homogeneous mean SAP/R3 to SAP CRM

Hi,
1. XI is an EAI tool developed by SAP. It is used to exchange the data between 2 systems. This 2 systems can be either SAP SAP, SAP non-sap, Non-SAP Non-SAP.
2. Number of ways are there in XI to communicate with the Application system depending upon ur scenario u can use File, Idoc, SOAP, HTTP, RFC, Mail etc..
3. Homogeneous systems are any 2 similar systems can be either 2 SAP systems or 2 Java systems
Heterogeneous systems are 2 differebt systems like SAP , Java

Amit,
1) Xi stands for Exchange Infrastructure( Now a days called the Process Integration). It really supply information between SAP and Non-SAP systems regardless of boundaries.
2) The XI uses a number of adapters (File, IDoc, RFC, http, JDBC, JMC, Marketplace, RNIF, XI), in order to do this job.
3) If the data transfer is between the SAP systems, it is Homogenous environment, else it is Heterogenuous environment.
You will find 100's of documents on this subject, Please refer for more information.

1. What is XI? how oes XI work? how does communictio an conversion take place using XI?
It's a software that reacts as a courier person. It's base SOAP-XML format.
2. How does message reach from Application system to XI?
There are various way that message reach from Application system to XI. You can choose various kind of adapter such HTTP, File, IDOC or etc
3. What is Heterogenuous an homogeous environment?
Heterogenuous environment - example you've a system using SAP and you've a system base on AS/400 but you need both to integrate.
Thanks and Regards
