Hello Tushar,

the autosave will be deactivated, if you switch it off - then you'll find the corresponding command in file dbm.prt.

Another reason could be an error which occured while a logbackup was created - then you'll find the error message in file knldiag.err.

Hello Melanie,

Thanks a lot.

I checked dbm.prt file which does not mention autolog_off command means it has been deactivated by error.

So checked knldiag.err file, which mentioned the error:

I checked autolog.003 file which has permission as owner (<livecache_sid>adm) and group sapsys.

It also has overwrite option as NO:

So it owner:group is wrong or is it due to overwrite option?

What should be owner and group sdb:sdba for backup medium of file type?

Thanks for your help.

Hello Tushar,

Security concept for the owner of the liveCache instance, it could be sdb by default,

is changed as of liveCache version 7.5 & it is described in the liveCache upgrade/installation guides.

< for SAP liveCache documentation see the SAP note 767598 >

< See info at "Special Operating System Users and Groups (UNIX/Linux)" link

http://maxdb.sap.com/currentdoc/23/cb4440eff00272e10000000a155106/content.htm >

-> Please update with additional information:

  • What is the version of the database?

  • Please run the following commands on the database server & update with outputs:

sdbregview -l

xinstinfo OEM

more /etc/opt/sdb

dbmcli -d OEM -u control,<pwd> medium_getall

-> The target directory of the log backups, /sapdb/OEM/lcbackup/log, should get a new user & group as of version 7.5 on Unix platforms.

As I wrote you, a new security concept was implemented, where the user 'sdb' and its group 'sdba' where introduced. The instance OEM may be using these as owner and group by default, check in /etc/opt/sdb file, and the backup directory should reflect

this, please change the owner:group to SdbOwner:SdbGroup < sdb:sdba by default >.

    • "So it owner:group is wrong or is it due to overwrite option?"

You could not create the logbackup medium with overwrite option.

    • When the /sapdb/OEM/lcbackup/log/autolog.003 was created?

Check the backup history.

    • "What should be owner and group sdb:sdba for backup medium of file type?"

If the logbackup was created by liveCache the correct ownership should be setup.

As of liveCache version 7.5 or higher it should be owner:group as sdb:sdba by default.

If it was created before you upgraded the liveCache to the version 7.5 or higher, you don't need this log backup. During the version upgrade from the liveCache upgrade CD the liveCache is initialized & the backup history is lost.

See the SAP note :: 869267 FAQ: MaxDB LOG area

Hello Natalia,

Thanks a lot. We created a new backup medium and it has owner as sdb and group as sdba. After this we activated the automatic log backup.

Your reply is always helpful.
