hi

In the Quality Management (QM) component, you can inspect either based on an inspection plan, or (with certain limitations) based on material specifications that are valid on a company-wide basis.

<b>Inspection planning based on Material specification</b>

If you plan inspections with a material specification, you can inspect a material using the inspection characteristics that are defined in the task list, as well as the master inspection characteristics that are defined in the material specification, or the class characteristics that are linked to these master inspection characteristics.

<b>Inspection planning based on Inspection planning</b>

Inspection plans help you to describe how a quality inspection of one or several materials is to take place. In the inspection plan, you define the sequence of inspection operations and the range of specifications available for inspecting inspection characteristics

Material specfication is a simple way for doing inspection here you are specifying only the inspection characteristic and few more, whereas in inspection plan you are planning for various activities like operation, how much hours is required for doing the operation, appraisal cost, work center etc basically inspection plan is the combination of Task list and material specification

Hi Thyagarajan,

Thanks for the reply....If t6he inspection can be done using Inspection plan alone....then why to have Material specifications.....

I am aware that the characs are linked to class characs....and inspection can be done using specs as specified in QM view of material master....

But then why to have separate Mat. specs if inspection plan can do the same....

hi

May be the level of details used for inspection

in some cases like different material you have to plan in detail for inspection whereas , for another material you will plan only for inspection characterisic

Also material inspection is maintained at client level , whereas inpsection plan is at plant level

Hi Ameya,

The first thing is that material spec is the client level data in QM where as Inspection plan is the plant level.

<u><b>

Case 1:</b></u> Suppose that there is an attribute Viscosity whivh needs to be checked whose UCL & LCL is 10 to 15. But in one plant where some highy precise requirement is there ...... then in that case we want that for that plant for the material viscocity should be 5 to 7 . In that case the requirement of the inspection plans comes in to picture .

<b><u>Case 2 :</u></b> The material got one extra attribute needs to be checked for some plant .... in that case we need to maintain inspection plan for that material with both Insp with material spec & insp with inspection plan need to be checked so that during the result recording apart from the attributes in the material spec this extra attribute gets populated from inspection plan

Note : Apart from this as in material spec the data is maintained in the client level the load in the database will be compartively less as there will not be any duplication of data which will be there in case of plant level data for the same material ..........

I hope this will add some info apart from what the gurus has suggested above .....

Please reward points if helpful.....

Thanks & Regrads
