Hi,
I am just curious how the SAP systems gets affected by changing database global name on the fly.
I have just refreshed my Q box in ECC and the global name is showing Prod db name.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Have a look on http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/ds_admin001.htm
With Example it is Explained effect of changing Global Name
The global database name is set at database creation time and it defaults to
db_name.db_domain If the db_name or db_domain is modified after database creation, the value for the global database name does not change. This means that the db_domain set in the init.ora file could be different from the db_domain part of the global_name.
Now it will be a problem in case u have Any DB links or Replicated Env , Otherwise its ok

Hi Shawn
We did migrate our system tablespace from dict managed to locally managed with brspace and ran in the problem described in sap note 775029 - ORA-23327 during brspace dbcreate.
So in some cases a wrong global name can cause problems, i suggest you just add a step to set the global name in your documentation, when you refresh your quality system.

Michael
