Item code characters

The number of characters allocated for item code in item master is 20.How to increase the same.My client item code(tool code) exceeds the limit.how to solve this problem?

Ganesh,

By definition the ItemCode permits only 20 characters. You could alternately use the ItemName field as it is 100 char long.

In all marketing document the users can use ItemName as a selection option.

I am not sure if using SDK you can make ItemCode work better.

My problem is that my client is already using item code and now he wants to add new item for which the characters exceeds 20.Item description is editable i believe and my clients doesnt want to use it.Is there any other way out?

There is no way to increase the lenght of the item code.

Best option is the create a userdefined field and call it external code and give an autonumber to the SAP Item Code.
