Does anyone have any good incite on upgrading from SRM 4.0 to SRM 5.0 possibly(6.0)? We are preparing to upgrade to ECC 6.0 and I want to know for:
1 - Is an SRM upgrade absolutely required if we are currently on 4.0?
2 - What are the possible benefits/pitfalls of the upgrade in both SRM 5.0 and 6.0?
Your wisdom is greatly appreciated!
Points will be rightfully rewarded!

Hi,
See the foll links:

Since SRM 6.0 is quite new, and will be officially released after some time, you need to read the release notes in order to find the exact differences in terms of enhancements from the above link.
Refer to this OSS Note as well.

You can check next link:

In EBP 5.0, you have more flexibility in case of the WF's.e.g. in the SC Approval WF's ,you can have the n-step dynamic header level as well as the Item level approval Workflow in addition to the Standard 1 step,2 step and no approval Workflows

Hi Charles,
Upgrade decisions are normally made on the following basis
1. Non-Availability of Mainstream SAP Support - Is SAP stopping the mainstream support for this version of SRM? For example; SRM 3.0 mainstream support ended on dec 31, 2006. This prompted some customers to move the SRM 5.0.
2. Additional functionality which in the higher version: This can be determined by looking into the release notes of the next/higher versions of SRM to find it there are some critical functionalities which are required by the customer.
3. Technical/performance issues in lower versions: Sometimes when the user community is very high there may be performance issues in lower versions of SRM which may be a compelling reason for upgrade.
Mostly its a combination of all these factors which are a reason for upgrading.
If you dont have any such compelling reasons for upgrade its better to wait for SRM 2007 (until Dec 2008).

Srivatsan

Hi Charles,
your upgrade to ECC 6.0 does not drive the necessity to upgrade SRM. It can
further run on SRM 4.0 with ECC 6.0. Currently that combination is the best stable
available. Depending on the SRM scenarios used, it could make sense to use
SRM 5.0 for enhancements - sourcing, contract management, etc.
An upgrade to 6.0 is not possible as well not recommended. There are several
issues with 6.0 SAP is solving right now and putting into SRM 7.0.
Stabilize your environment with the upgarde to ECC 6.0, potentially upgrade to
SRM 5.0 when scenarios requiring and wait for the release of SRM 7.0.
Cheers,
Claudia
