Hi,

When I formatted and re-installed OS in license server the hardware key getting changed. But I did not change any hardware. The only change I did was OS.

Due to this old license file is not getting imported, which logical.

May I know on what basis this Hardware will be generated?

Is there any way to get same Hardware key again?

How do I get new license key at this stage (without additional cost)?

Thanks for your answers

B Ravi Shankar

Hi,

Yes, a change or reinstall of the OS will change the hardware key. Unfortunately, reinstalling the OS means you will not be able to return to the previous OS unless you had an image of the server that you could restore.

There's a SAP note (793649) on the things that change the hardware key. Here's the details from the note:

The following actions will change the Hardware Key:

1. Formatting the machine and reinstalling Windows.
2. When changing the computer name.
3. When changing the domain (it will not change back when returning to the previous domain).
4. On Linux - If you change the network card.

The following actions will NOT change the Hardware Key:

1. When adding a login user for the computer.
2. When changing date/time on the computer.
3. When changing the IP.
4. When adding a memory or hard drive to the computer.

The good news is that there is no charge from SAP to get a new license key. If you have access to the customer portal then you should be able to arrange this yourself. If not, you will need to speak to your SAP partner.

Kind Regards,
