There are couple of terminology, I would like to add

(1) Plant level BOM: where BOM is created with Material and Plant combination.

(2) Group BOM: when BOM is created at Material level. subsequently, this Group BOM is assigned to various plants to maintain uniformity.

(3) BOM group: where multiple variants get created for a material and plant.

each filed in the BOM is having its own significance. for example, we can use negative quantity for BOM components? when? so on..

Thanks

JK

Hi,

BOM is nothing but Bill of Materials. To have a rough definition: The components required to complete a finished product, say assembly....

Details:

A formally structured list of the components that make up a product or assembly. The list contains the object number of each component, together with the quantity and unit of measure.

BOMs are used in their different forms in various situations where a finished product is assembled from several component parts or materials. Depending on the industry sector, they can also be called recipes or lists of ingredients and so on.

They contain important basic data for numerous areas of a company, for example:

MRP

Material provisions for production

Product costing

Plant maintenance

You can create the following BOMs in the SAP system:

Material BOMs

Equipment BOMs

Functional location BOMs

Document structures

Order BOM

Work breakdown structure (WBS) BOM

--

Bills of material (BOMs) and routings contain essential master data for integrated materials management and production control. In the design department, a new product is designed such that it is suitable for production and for its intended purpose. The result of this product phase is drawings and a list of all the parts required to produce the product. This list is the bill of material.

CS01 - create BOM

Status of BOM is important for its usage. You will maintain this in the header details of the BOM (CS02)...you can verify...

Subcontracting process in Procurement also requires BOM apart from PP/pp-PI/PM/SD/PM etc...Universal BoM can be used for all modules....

Hope, this helps!
