Background generation with SGEN

Former Member

Hi,

I want to precompile all SAP functions in the background with low priority. However, any time I launch SGEN job (in the background), the system becomes almost unusable. It's very slow to login, etc. even though I'm the only person who uses it at the moment.

Is it possible to set a very low priority for the scheduled job or leaving it for the midnight is the only feasible workaround?

Hi janek,

Yes, you can schedule the job to run afterhours are midnight...

At SGEN -> Select the generation task -> Software components -> Server for parallel generation -> Just enter starting date and time and click "Schedule job for"

My question is how to adjust the priority of this background job to so that it wouldn't place excessively high load on the server.

Any ideas?

I see, i have always done the SGEN directly after an upgrade that usually is done afterhours or during the weekend... As far as i know theres no way to reduce the priority or the impact in the system
