This is exactly how SAP handles the rework order with trigger point(if required)

See the link below

There are various way to deal this situation:

a) you can create Production order for rework by choosing rework production version. Rework production version will have alternate BOM where cylinder will be parent & child material. While creating the rework production order, enter oil seal as an additional componnet. Move the reworked material to different sloc to identify. GI shhould happen from rework location while GR will be done to GR location.

b) Create production order without material & put oil seal as an component. Settle the cost of this order to original order.

How do you account for the spoiled seal?

In my old company we used to do a negation and addition of the same compoinent so that the spoiled component would be backflushed..

Try that and let us know

Option two: Pretty cumbersome..

1) Create new Rework material

2) Create new rework BOM by copying PO bom and changing to have new seal

3) New reference routing or routing either ways.

Create a new rework prod order for this material and you can get the required results.

this way you can identify that new rework material and rework bom associated with it.

There is another simple way, this scenario can be handled.

create a separate Order Type for Rework and use proper settings such that it will not copy the actual routing instead attach a default operation (separate configuration required) and then add components what you need during creation of rework order. In this case, you are producing the same cylinder and settling the cost to relevant FI account.

This scenario could be user friendly,as we do not know, which are the items needed everytime for rework

Thanks
