What is The Difference Between UNI-Code and NON-UNICODE?

Hi Gurus

I am an Security Admin and learning Basis i would like to know in detail about difference between Unicode and Non- Unicode.

non unicode support only english and germany since it is allocated one bit for each charecter

but in unicode systems each charecter can occupy from one to five bites

so load on DB and network increases by 30-35% for unicode systems
