Import installation 4.6B on Linux/Oracle

Former Member

Hello,

After an export from OS/400-Db300 I began to import my new system into a Linux Red Hat 4 with Oracle.

I had a problem in phase "Resetting Database" which I solved by deleting the step in the DATABASE.R3S.

Right now the installation is in "Creating Database" phase, but the server is not writing on the filesystems or doing anything. All files and directories have no problems with permissions, there are some 'oracle process' running but nothing seems to be happening.

In the log, the last lines are:

INFO 2007-11-06 12:34:23 DBCREATEDB_IND_ORA InternalInstallationDo:0

Create Database.

INFO 2007-11-06 12:34:23 DBCREATEDB_IND_ORA SyCoprocessCreateAsUser:300

Creating coprocess /oracle/DES/bin/svrmgrl command=@orascr.sql

as user orades and group dba ...

INFO 2007-11-06 12:34:23 DBCREATEDB_IND_ORA SyGroupIDGet:100

Group id for group dba is 1005.

INFO 2007-11-06 12:34:23 DBCREATEDB_IND_ORA SyUserIDGet:300

User id for user orades is 501.

INFO 2007-11-06 12:34:23 DBCREATEDB_IND_ORA SvrmgrDoDummy:0

Return from DB: 12547.

But no errors are shown! Can someone help me, please?

Thanks!!!

Isabel

-> which oracle processes are running?

-> instance was already created?

-> any oracle directories already created?

-> which oracle release are you using? 8i? 9i? seems like 8i (cos of "svrmgrl")

Hello

Thanks for replying.

-> Processes:

/oracle/DES/bin/svrmgr1 command?@orascr.sql

[oracle] <defunct>

[oracle] <defunct>

[oracle] <defunct>

[oracle] <defunct>

[oracle] <defunct>

[oracle] <defunct>

grep orades

-> I'm creating the SAP Central Instance, and after installing Oracle 8.0.6 and continue with the installation it hangs in this step.

-> Oracle directories:

/oracle

/oracle/DES

/oracle/805_32

/oracle/DES/806_32

/oracle/stage/stage_806

and all other filesystmes such as: sapdata(1-10), sapreorg, saparch, mirrlog(A-B), origlog(A,B)

-> Im installing Oracle 8.0.6 and planning to upgrade later to Oracle 8.1.7

I doubt that Oracle 8 is supported on Redhat ES 4.

According to Metalink 169706.1 you need a Linux kernel 2.4 based operating system (Redhat 6.1 EE, Redhat 6.2) to install Oracle 8.0.6. Redhat 4 uses a new threading mechanism Oracle 8 is not aware of.

Hello Markus,

Thanks for your answer. Where can I download the kernel? Do you know if there could be any problem with SAP Instance (4.6B)?

Regards.

You can't download "just the kernel" - there are dependent parts (glibc etc.)

You need a different Redhat distribution (Redhat 6.1 EE or Redhat 6.2, Redhat 7.1 MAY work also - but no newer ones).

Hello,

Markus, you were right, after reviewing SAP Notes I found out that none Oracle 8 versions are supported with Redhat 4. So find out two possible solutions:

1) Change Redhat from 4.0 to an older ( like 3.0 ) and install Oracle 9.2 with SAP Kernel 46D_EXT

2) Keep Redhat 4.0 and install Oracle 10.2 with SAP Kernel 46D_EXT -- however for this second solution I dont know exactly which Oracle Client must be installed --.

Any comments?

Thanks and regards

You can run Redhat 4 (4.5) with Oracle 9.

Kernel 4.6D_EXT uses Oracle client 9.2.0.8 to connect to 10.2 databases, see
