Hi
I have installed Sneak Preview ABAP 7.0 SP12 on a Windows machine.
When I logon to the system and afterward I access to System --> Status to see the components installed, I find PI_BASIS component, apart from SAP_BASIS, SAP_BASIS and SAP_BW.
What PI_BASIS component is used for? How can I use this feature?
Thanks for any reply!

The PI-BASIS module is the module that takes care of interfacing with external systems. The whole concept of datasources is implemented in this module (with transactions like RSA5, RSA6, RSA2). The same module is available in all SAP source systems.
BW internally also uses this module, but mostly you will not need to use it directly. When you connect an DSO to another DSO or CUBE with transformation rules, then (under water) a datasource is created for the source DSO. You can find it in transaction RSA6, just search for it using the name of your DSO.
