Asset value date is entered by user when posting transactions to an asset. Asset value date from the first posted transaction to the asset is defaulted as Capitalization date in the asset master data.

Alternatively at the time of creating asset master, Capitalization date can be manually entered by user in which case it will be the capitaliztion date instead of defaulting from asset value date from first transaction.

In case of legacy asset creation in t code AS91, asset capitalization date is required field since its an existing asset and values are not posted using transactions but uploaded in the respective fields.

An asset can have only one Capitalization date; but can have different value dates depending on the transactions posted to the asset.

Hope this helps.

Thanks
