Setting up GIS

I try to get the GeoMaps working, and I have already posted in another thread [1].

But since the feature is very cool and I know it from BW, I will not give up yet. The Goal is to get it running with WebDynpro.

Here's a summary of the status:

- GeoMaps require a GIS (Geographic information system)

- SAP BW obviously comes with such a GIS, because BW supports Geo Maps (I used it from there)

- The GIS of ESRI seems to be used: http://www.esri.com/

- The IGS has to be hooked up with the GIS. I did not find any information how to do this.

Questions:

- When I have my WebAS 6.40 Java running, can I link it to the GIS of a BW server?

- Is there a way to download the ESRI (or another GIS) for trial?

Hi Frank,

please give me a note if you solve this problem.

I have the same problem.

I ordered now the trial version(60 days) from ArcView9 but i still dont know how to connect the SAP IGS (on J2EE) to the GIS-Server then.

Maybe in the trial CD there is a note.

Hi Murat,

will do. Maybe you just post here if you suceeded with your trial.

I wonder why it is still so difficult to find information on this, while all the other stuff is pretty well documented.

Hi ,

I can answer ur first q.

When ur was server is running you can have ur GIS in that if the port in which GIS is running do not overlap any other application in WAS.

Hi Guru,

thanks for this info. Unfortunately I am not completely getting it.

As far as I understand the IGS has to be linked with the GIS. My question was not whether I can run GIS and IGS on the same machine, but how (or even whether) I can link the IGS with the GIS of an existing BW installation.

The problem is:

- as far as I know, the GIS can not be downloaded for trail

- it is not coming with WebAS 6.40 (or am I wrong here?)

- the only installation I know coming with the GIS is obviously BW, because there I can run GeoMaps

My goal is

a) either to get a GIS for trial

b) or to somehow leverage existing installation here in my company

c) Or hook up with a public GIS (if something like this is existing)

Regards

Frank
