Starting and Stopping Instances from Netweaver Administrator does not work.

When we go to our http://<host>:<port>/nwa and navigate to Systems. We see our instances, although we see status and UNKNOWN.

Also, when we click down to see our server nodes, and try and restart them or stop them...we enter our user/pass for Unix and but it doesn't do anything.

Does anyone know what is involved to get this functionality to work? We're not looking install CCMS or anything like that, we just want th ability to start and stop our cluster from the central instance web administration screens.

Thanks,

-Tim

the NWA console is slightly misleading

> under your system list eg.

DR 3

DVEBMGS00 (Instance ID53402)

Click on the J2EE processes on the details tab at the bottom of the screen.

You can then start and stop the dispatcher, SDM and server from here.

right, but unfortunatley, when we do that, nothing happens. no restart takes place.

I am trying to determine what that functionality is dependant on, so we can in fact restart, stop and start.

Just works for us, without needing any config.

If your running unix the alternative method is to use a tool called JCMON, much better than NWA.

log in as <sid>adm onto your host.

jcmon pf=/usr/sap/PEP/SYS/profile/PEP_JC00_xxxxx

for our production portal for example;

Which allows you to do admin on your java instance only.

use the menu options 10 - 21.

yes we are aware of this and this is how we have been administrating our portal, but the people we would like to be restarting nodes are people we don't want to be giving Unix level access to.

You can download the J2EE admin tool off the server to a PC with Java installed and run it locally rather than though X-windows.

This allows you to stop/start instances, without giving people unix access.

P.S. What version of the netweaver stack are you running ? 6.40 or 7

I'm aware of all the workarounds that exist.

What I want is for the NWA Administrator to work.
