Hi Folks,
some questions about to patch a kernel.
First of all, we've a netweaver 700 System with ABAP&Java installed.
What i've done in the past, I only patched a Kernel via LIB_DBSL and DW files.
Today I found note 912575 which describes to import Kernel 700 on iSeries.
I'm now a little bit confused because I read about files sapexe sapexedb to download and apply.
What's the right way ? or better what's the difference between LIB_DBSL/DW and SAPEXE/SAPEXEDB.
Hope someone can gimme a light into the dark
Thx Thomas
Hello,
just a minor correction:
LODR3KRN is used for loading SAP kernels in 46D.
In 640 and 700 you better use LODSAPKRN for this purpose.

Hello,
after we had some problems in the beginning we now use the complete kernel (SAPEXE, SAPEXEDB) only. It is just less work. We have done it several times and didn't run into any issues. If you are using the IGS don't forget to look at OSS note 93700.
The only exception to this is if we have to patch specific parts of the kernel to fix a specific problem.
Regards,
Ingrid
Hi Thomas,
sorry to say, but that was not correct in the old days as well ;-(
Now, it's even "less" correct ...
sapexe & sapexedb are complete kernels based on that patch level. They can be applied with LODR3KRN. You should normally either patch everything individually completely (except sapexe & sapexedb) and not only DW & lib_dbsl. In Java you need e.g. J2EELIB ...
I used sapexe & sapexedb once nad had the problem that a few minor parts were missing. So, I typically patch individually ...
