Gaining proper approval for emergency situations

Hi,

Whats the process --I know it varies from corp to corp- to gain approval for an emergency situvation? Firefighter too can be mentioned here.

What I am looking out is a flavour of various methods ..various thoughts...even innovations !

Hi George,

Fire fighter ids are assigned to users in an emergency in Production environment and these ids will get firefighter roles.

If a user wants to debug a program or check a table in production then this kind of a setup is necessary. Also at the time of auditing, auditors will be assigned firefighter ids to audit.

Whatever technical solution you use, the procedure for approval is more important!

So:

1. Have the error for which reason the emergency uid is needed properly recorded in your error handling system (Solution Manager or similar)

2. Have all available support personnel give their opinion if there is no other solution and also collect that info in the system as well.

3. Have a senior manager give approval for the use of the emergency uid. (note name and approval of manager in the system)

4. Release the emergency uid to the support user who is going to solve the issue, be sure to:

a. Set a start and end date and

b. Be sure the support user starts immediately, if not block the emergency uid again.

c. Monitor the uid (AL08 ) usage

d. Have trace running during the use.

e. Read the trace report for misuse of the emergency uid.

f. Store all info to be audited later.

g. Make a clear procedure for the use of teh emegency uid

Never give this emergency uid to auditors or end users!!! Also make clear to the support users that never an enduser task should be performed with this uid! So no postings etc.
