ETL tools

Hello guys,

I'm preparing for my upcoming project with ETL tools Informatica, I got pretty much the information of ETL and what it is, but how to use and configurate it?

If you can give me the full link to a good complete tutorial that would be highly appreciated and full points given, thank you so much in advance!

There r diff. ETL tools available in market. All of the below tools are for Extractions, Transfer and Loading Purposes.

Eg: ETL Tools. Cognas, Informatica, Erwin, Microstrategy...

Internal Tables :(used only for runtime)

Basically there are 5 types of Internal tables.

1. Standared,

2. Sorted,

3. Indexed,

4. Hashed and

5. Any

Please check this document

You can get complete detials of ETL in BW350 book . Here you can get in depth knowledge on Extraction types used in BW (how to extract from COPA, LO, CRM & NON SAP systems etc) and some sample scenarios. For data staging you can find more detials in BW365 book.

Try to get these 2 books or soft copies. or else you can but ETL book from SAP PRESS (

Pls check the document in the link attached.

1) BW it self facilitates to do the ETL (Extraction Transformation Loading) steps:

Extraction - from SAP or other data bases

Transformation - using transfer rules, Updates rules

Loading - Loading into ODS, Cube, master data

2) Typically used ETL tools in the industry are:

a) datastage from Ascential (owned by IBM)

b) Informatica

c) Mercator

ETL: Extracting , transforming and loading is the process of reading (extracting) from heterogeneous sources and transform them so that discrete data from different sources gets integrated and then loading into the data warehouse.

Extracting: Reading and understanding the source data and copying the parts that are needed to the data staging area for further work.

Transforming: Data transformations are often the most complex and, in terms of processing time, the most costly part of the ETL process.

Loading: Discrete data from different sources gets integrated and then loading into the data warehouse
