It is similar to declaration of data at the initialization event of the report.Global definitions are used to declare variables which can be used to process data across any nodes of SMARTFORMS.

Hi,
In practical point of view, we declare Work Area of internal table in Global definition and also declare variable to store calculated value( like Sum or Unit Price ) in smartform and later pirnt it in lauoyt.
Reword if helpfull.

Sujoy

Global definitions is used to declare variables globally which can be accesed to whole smart form. you can even write some code in the intialization tab to retrive data before smart form gets printed.
