Hi

DEVELOPER KEy is needed to create/change something in ABAP DEVelopment work bench

where as Access key is needed with respect to a particular program/object

Ask the basis people they will generate this key and give it to you

see for upgrade

While doing Upgrade You have to aware of all related program like BDC's , Screens related errors and all dictionary related problems.

Some function modules may become obsolete, and some screens will change

and some new fields will be added in the new versions etc.

Also take care of SPAU and SPDD tcodes.

You should be able to know about Unicode concept in sap.

check this

http://www.thespot4sap.com/upgrade_guide_v2.pdf#search=%22upGRADE%20STEPS%20-%20SAP%22

also chk these 2 notes in service.sap.com

Technical Upgrade is only a version upgrade without any functionality changes.

The objects that are needed to be upgraded are:

Includes

Function Groups / Function Modules

Programs / Reports

OSS Notes

SAP Repository Objects

SAP Data Dictionary Objects

Domains, Data Elements

Tables, Structures and Views

Module Pools, Sub Routine pools

BDC Programs

Print Programs

SAP Scripts, Screens

User Exits

Hi,

Developer key is required only once when you make change in the system for the first time for eg create a program or change any program, it will ask for developers key. Basis will register your user id and generate this key which you need to use.

Object key is used to modify respective standard program. This will differ from object to object. Each time you need to contact BASIS to generate the same.

As you are doing SPAU now, system will be open for 14 days and when you do adjustments to standard program, it should not ask for any object key. However when you make changes to these programs in SPAU, it will ask for the transport. So save them in transport request.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

If you want to modify any STANDARD SAP Program/Object, then SAP provides a Objects key/Access key for the same. This ensures that all the developers cannot modify the standard programs & people who have the object key can only modify it.

Developer access key is nothing but a code which needs to be entered in sap once you logon . This is one time activity. This is to ensure that you have the developer access being granted by a BASIS person & its not an unauthorized access.

Please ask your BASIS consultant to provide Object key & developer key
