The design time configuration in XI is done in two parts as IR and ID. We create the schema/metadata in IR and then move to ID where the physical system is configured.
Is there any particular advantage of doing this ? Something like
reusability?
Any insight will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Krishnan

yes,the biggest advantage is re-usability and also flexibility.
once the designing is done in IR,it can be shipped to any partner as long as their requirment is same, once its shipped the same design can be configured in ID differently for different partners depending upon their landscape and systems.
this encapsulates the design objects from config. objects as well as helps to re-use the same objects
Thanx

Hi Krishnan,
IR : For the design and developmet of Interface ,Mapping and process objects that are used to implement integration scenario.
ID: For configuration scenario from IR in SLD.
By separating design time activities from configuration time activities, SAP can ship content for the IR, which each customer can implement for their specific landscape in the ID. As fas goal is to reduce the problem of develping interfaces to simpler task of conf. interfaces.
Hope this will help.
