hi
can anyone explain Spool request in Output. and what do you mean by SPOOL ADMINISTRATION
regards
murali
Murali,
When ever you are printing any thing from SAP, Depending on your settings it will store the request in a Spool request. You can view these spool requests created by you using SP02.
SAP Stores them as a buffer before sending the print request to the printer which you can view it latter, This is to make sure that even if the communication to the Printer fails, SAP can store that info in the system.
You can control in the output , whether you want to keep the spool request before printing, and whether you want to delete the spool request after printing..

Ajai.

Hi,

SPOOL ADMINISTRATION
Purpose
Unlike the Output Controller (transaction SP01), in which both users and administrators can work, Spool Administration (transaction SPAD or Tools ® CCMS ® Spool ® Spool Administration) is intended for administrators.
Features
All devices, servers, and so on that are involved in printing are defined and managed in spool administration (transaction SPAD).
In the spool administration, you can perform the following tasks:
· Setting Up Output Devices and Managing Output Devices
· Setting Up and Managing Spool Servers
· Setting Up and Managing Device Types
· Maintaining Character Sets

Hi,
The SAP System differentiates between two types of request when printing:
● Spool request: A spool request is a document for which a print function has been selected. However, it has not yet been output to a printer or another device. The output data for the print document is stored partly formatted in a data store until an output request is created, that is, until it is sent to a particular output device.
The spool system uses a spool request to store the print data temporarily and to access it. The data is stored in a temporary format. You can also display the print document.
The system automatically assigns a 10-digit ID number to a spool request.
● Output request: From the point of view of the SAP spool system, an output request outputs the print data of a spool request to a particular output device.
Multiple output requests may exist for a single spool request. Each represents an instance of the output of the same spool request. Each of these output requests may have different attributes, such as the target printer or number of copies.
By differentiating between spool request and output requests, the spool system provides a means of storing the data temporarily.
You create spool requests (and, in some cases, also output requests) using the print window.
You an administer spool requests and output requests using the Output Controller (Transaction SP01).

Hi Murali krishna
Using SPAD - SAP Spool Administration to print different paper size
The SAP spool system manages its own output devices. This includes mostly printers, but also fax and archiving devices. In order for you to use output devices defined in your operating system from the SAP System, you must define these devices in the SAP spool system.
Print to a dot matrix printer using computer paper with 66 lines
Define paper types
Formatting process Z_60_135
Page format DINA4
Orientation tick both Portrait and Orientation
Type in the comment and click save
Device initialization
Device type - OKI341
Formatting process Z_60_135 then click Execute
Double click Printer initilization
You must key the 66 lines hexadecimals for your printer. ( line no 9)
1 # oki341 x_paper
2 # reset
3 # \e\0x40
4 # select codepage multilingual 850
5 \e\0x52\0x1a
6 # disable skip perforation mode
7 \e\0x4f
8 # select 6 lpi
9 \e\0x32
10 # select page length 66 lines (66=hex $42)
11 \e\0x43\0x42
12 # select 10 cpi font
13 \e\0x60

hi,
spool means that all print request that are sent to the o/p device generate a small print program called spool so incase the printing fails or its wanted to trace who has printed a certain doc that can be done. it can be viewd in sp01. wen u create condition records for o/p make sure that the 'request generation option ' suitably selected i.e the request are kept in sp01 and not deleted as soon as they aer printed.
