Hello, we are trying to install a HP LaserJet 1022n (a network printer) in a AIX 5.3 Server, but after the queue is created in a os level the printer is not responding, if I run the lpstat -p command to the queue it shows the following error:

  1. lpstat -pdg22

Queue Dev Status Job Files User PP % Blks Cp Rnk

Any advice?

Thanks in advance

Did you give the port number (9100) in the configuration? HP printers don´t listen on 515...

Thanks Markus, When we created the queue it doesn't ask for the port. Actually we aready are using several Hp printers in this server without problems.

Thanks, any other suggestions

The error messages (clearly) states: ECONN_REFUSED which means, that the target system dosen´t accept a connection on the given IP.

Can you do a

telnet dg22 515

from that server to the printer? Can you ping the printer?

Can you telnet to port 9100?

telnet db22 9100

If that works, try to enter the target in smit(ty) as

dg22:9100

No, it doesn't work, The telnet service is disable in the server becouse of security reasons, but even trying in another computer the telnet to the printer doesn't work.

Telnet is OUTGOING, if the telnet doesn't work on that port, the system can't reach the printer. Don't get confused by the "telnet program", it will do basically the same as the lpd is doing (building up a connection).

If you can't connect to the printer then the printer is not on the network or having a different addresse, wrong default gateway or other network misconfiguration.

Thanks Markus, We already check the printer's network configuration but doesn't have nothing wrong. Actually this printer is working fine in windows programs. We think the problem is in the model (1022n), but I can't found nothing in SAP notes.

yes, this is installed on the unix server.

you need to configure the printer at OS level using HPNP tool, then use method U in SPAD to point to this printer
