No Role

What would be the consequences of implementing the BI reporting without using the role-based approach?

Can the workbooks be transported to BIP without using the role?

How would you convince the users that they will have to create workbooks and attach them to the role? They don't want to do security at all.

The users are contemplating of not using the security and role in the BIP system... Would you recommend any other approaches?

Yes you can transport workbook without assiging it to role.

Users can directly run the queries in BIP, and can save it as workbooks.

Are you sure?

What is this idea that everyone is saying that the workbooks should be role-based for those users to be able to see the workbooks or queries.

But would you suggest the users to implement the role to organize the reporting procedure?

Or would you implement it with no role . What would be most effective and most efficient approach or common practice?

By default the created workbooks get stored in users favourite folder, and if you will not assign it to any role no one else can access it other than the one who created it. (only if the users favourite folder is also transported else you have to search your workbook in BIP).

If you assign workbooks to some role, user can see them according to directly in their role menu. Else they can run the query and save it as workbook so it will only be available to their favourite folder.

The best approach always is whatever user want to see. If user want it to be role based give them role based, else give them this alternative option.

What the users want is not necessary the approach to go because they have no idea how things can get messy.

I would think the way to go is to suggest them to do the role based and organize the implementation based on the authorizations that 1 power user has to be able to maintain the workbooks.

What are some of the role based approaches that can be implemented?

What would be some of the strategies? Could the role based approach become messy?

Roles based approach is less messier and easy for authorizations, so easier way would be to assign roles to power users and include all the reports for the power user, and let the power user decide which user should ahve which report and assign subroles accordingly.
