Synchronizing SAP time with OS time

Hi everybody,

Here a Question for Experts:

We have the requirement to synchronize the time in our system constantly with the time of the OS, which is also constantly being updated via the Network Time Protocol from a "Time Server".

IN other words: our OS and every record must be synchronized with the time from the "Time Server".

Is that possible?

Can we synchronize the time in our system, taking it from the time of the underlying OS.

If yes: which could be the procedure?

If not: are there any alternatives?

Thank you very much in Advance!

No - SAP doesn´t have this kind of mechanism (at least I´m not aware of any).

For what will happen e. g. on time changes check the following note:

7417 - Conversion between winter time and daylight saving time

We had this "problem" some years ago, when we used at DCF77 receiver. Fortunately the system was confused for only some minutes because we were getting many dumps and we were able to set the time manually then.

From this point on, we use the public NTP servers on the internet, use that synchronize one machine in our DMZ which is our time server. We do not allow time changes with > 5 minutes, if that occurs, we get a mail from that server, that something is wrong. Using that procedure, we don´t rely on separate hardware and their functionality and if our main NTP server on the internet is not working, we use a different one.
