How to move DB2V8 32bit + 46C 32bit to RHEL 4 x86_64 + DB2V8 64bit

Hi there,

A client of mine bought new hardware with RHEL 4 x86_64, so I must move their existing Linux 2.4 IA32 / DB2V8(FP14)_IA32 / 46C systems to the new hardware, with the end result being RHEL 4 x86_64 / DB2V8(FP14)_x86_64 / 46D_EXT_64.

My problem is, after going through all the DB2 and 64bit migration notes, is what DB2V8(FP9) installation kit should I use to prepare the new hardware? I first have to install 46C SR2 with DB2V8(FP9) on the new servers, but there are IA32, Linux26_IA32 and x86_64 versions for DB2V8. Can one install the x86_64 version now, copy/restore the old DB2 database to the new installation and migrate the database to 64bit, or should one first install DB2V8(FP9)_Linux26_IA32, copy/restore database, migrate to 64bit and then upgrade to DB2V8_x86_64?

Please help, I want to use the solution with the least amount of steps (or problems!)

Hi,

you can install the x86_64 DB2 software on your new machine and I recommend to create a 64 bit DB2 instance. After this you can restore your linux IA32 backup directly under the new database instance. No database migration is required after the restore if you stay on DB2 V8.

Thanks for the tip. I have install RHEL 4 x86_64 with DB2V8(FP9) for X86_64 and applied Fixpak 14. Then I have used the 46C SR2 Kernel cd and copied the latest 46D_EXT 64-bit SAPEXE.SAR and SAPEXEDB.SAR into this installation folder, but when I use R3SETUP -f CENTRDB.R3S to install a default SAP 46C installation on the new hardware, I get an error regarding the DAS instance. First of all, R3SETUP asks whether it is DB2 V6 or DB2 V7 (there is no V8) - I chose DB2 V7, but later it cannot create or start the DAS instance, as the V8 commands differ from V7 commands (plus paths are different and even the users are different!). So how to continue now and install a default SAP 46C system on RHEL 4 x86_64 with DB2V8 for x86_64?

Hi,

please be shure to use the latest 46D R3SETUP toolset CD from the Service Marketplace. There was an update for DB2 V8 and 9 (see note 928727 for details).

There are no more 46C/D installation kits available for download unless u have an extended maintenance contract with SAP. The DB2V8 stuff I have, but I don't have the latest R3SETUP kit.
