Proposed Plant

Hi Friends,

The plant in the sales order is proposed based on three different steps.

1. Check Customer material info record

2. check Customer master record

3. check material master record.

If the system doesnt find the material in the plants mentioned in the customer mateiral info record and the customer master record, then it proposes the plant in the material master record.

Now my question is, if the material is in more than one plant, which plant does it propose ?

Regards,

pavan

hi pavan,

did you try this scenario and see with the clarifications given. which plant is it picking in the sales order.

But also look at it from a real time business point of view. Generally we will assign the required plant as the delivering plant in the customer master or CMIR based on the proximity. So this becomes the first choice and gets proposed by SAP at sales order.

Even if the material is not available, the MRP would see when the stock could be availble next and a schedule line is proposed. But if only you want it intentionally from a different delivering plant where the stock was already available we need change the plant.

Thanks

Conceptually , SAP doesn't search Material in Plants in the three master data records. So your statement "If the system doesnt find the material in the plants mentioned in the customer ....." is wrong.

SAP only proposes the "plant" . Avalability check is carried out based on this proposed plant .If material is not there then you need to manually enter the plant where stock is present or check stock in alternative plant from availability screen

hi PAVAN,

During s.order ,p1 will come automatically.if u want p2(which plant has near to that customer )u manually enter that plant(p2).for that plant u have to do shipping point determination (/novl2).

Hi Pavan,

Generally Whichever plant is nearer to his place, customer will request to supply from that plat. This what we generally give in CMIR.

If we had not included any plant in any master records, we can enter manually whatever plant we want in the sales order.

Award points if it adds information.

Hello Pavan,

There are many views maintained in material master but the plant is always proposed from the one maintained in sales area view of material master.

A material can be extended to many plants and storage location via plant/storage data view but has a unique sales area data view having a unique delivering plant.

In sales order, plant flows from this view.

Reward if helpful.

Hi Pavan,

The delivering plant in the material master is available at the Sales Org 1 view. For this view the header level has the following fields Material, Sales Orgn and Dist Chnl. Based on this combination the delivering plant will be picked from the material master.

Assume you have the following structure

Plants - P1 & P2

Sales Orgn - S1 & S2

Dist Chnl - D1 & D2

Material - M1

Also assume that both the plants are assigned to all combinations of Sales Orgn and Dist Chnl.

In you material master you would have maintained the data as for M1, S1 & D1 as P1 or maybe as M1, S2 & D2 as P2. So when entering a sales order for the same material the sales orgn and dist chnl would play a key role in determing the delivery plant.

I hope this helped you understand. Do reward if you felt the same.

Hi Nadarajah,

Let me rephrase my question:

material1 is assigned to plant 1 plant2 plant3 plant4 and all the four plants are assigned to Sales org1 & Dchannel1.

Now, when a sales order is created for a customer and material in sales org1 & Dchanel1......which plant does it pick ???

Hi Pavan,

You may create a plant/storage location view for 4 plants lets say P1, P2 etc.

But Regarding Sales View where you maintaining Delivering plant Will depents on the Sales Organisation and Dist channel Only. the delivering plant in sales order is proposed from this view only.

As per your Example you can have only one delivering plant assigned to a Sales Org 1 & D channel 1. In the Sales 1 view.... that will be proposed when you enter a sales order.

For all this happening you should not maintain a Delivering plant in Customer master- Shipping view and in customer material info record...

Hope this will helpfull to you..

Reward if helpfull..

Hi Pavan,

I have understood your question but I dont think you understood my explanation. In MM03 the delivery plant field is available in the Sales Orgn 1 View and is displayed only if you enter a combination of Sales and Distribution Channel.Lets say in MM03 for M1, you select Sales Orgn 1 View, the system would ask for the Sales Orgn and Dist Chnl.

Lets assume you enter S1 and D1 and now you have a delivering plant field and here you enter plant P1. So while entering a sales order when you select the Material M1 with the Sales Orgn as S1 and Dist Chnl as D1 the system would propose P1 and not P2, P3 or P4 (even though they have been assigned in the enterprise structure).

Hope this help with your understanding.
