Hi Jenni,

Central Instance is where your Messaging server runs, all your additional Dialog Instances report to the it. DI is used as strategy of scalable solution. There will be only on MS which stays on CI.

check this following link give you more idea.

Hi

The instance that, together with the database, forms a runnable SAP system is known as the central instance.

An instance of an SAP system is an administrative unit where the components of

an SAP system, that provide one or more services, are combined. for exa If your client needs a separate server for background task then it called background server. Mostly we need more no.of dialog workprocesses and we call then as dialog instance.

SAP has provided with various types of Installations Procedures like

we can Intall Centall Instance in one System, Application System in anothere System wright here

SAP Come up with a consept like DEVBGMS wright

Central Instance: DEVBS

Dialog Instnce : DVBS

Here the G Process acts like the Gateway Port and the T-code is SMGW

The Request goes like first it the Request goes form <b>GUI</b> and it goes to <b>Applicatiion</b> and it goes to <b>Central Instance</b> (Database Instance also resides on Central Instance) and it fetches the Data and replies back to the user

Here in the above Scenairo the Dialog is the Application Instance and the other one is centrall Instance.

Hi,

Central Instance is the minimum requirement to run a SAP system which consists of all the work processes.

But in some cases, the available work processes may not be sufficient which will increase the wait and response times to end users before the work processes are released. In these kind of cases, a dialog instance will be installed so that the dialog requests can also be routed/shared if logon load balancing is configured.

There are some organizations which will have more requests to print. In this case, a dialog instance is installed and most of the work processes in this are set to spool so that there are ample work processes avaialable for print requests.

Dialog instance will generally be installed to increase work processes (can be dialog, update, background and spool) except enqueue and message server processes.

Hope this helps. Please award points if helpful.

Thanks

Thanks vijay and all.

Why the name "Dialog Instance"? What it signifies?

Vijay, can you clarify the following point

"Dialog instance will generally be installed to increase work processes (can be dialog, update, background and spool) except enqueue and message server processes."

Hi Jenni,

For any kind of process that need to run on the server, there is a heavy use of dialog work processes. If someone likes to update the database with some value for example, there will be only one splash of update work process required but, inorder to update this, we might need as many as atleast 5 dialog steps. May be any instance is called a dilaog instance because they are used the most to do any operation on the application server.

However, in some companies, they will name (differentiate) the dialog instances as update instance, spool instance and background instance when there are more number of update, spool and background work processes respectively.

Hope this helps. Please award points if helpful.

Thanks

Vijay

Hi Jenni,

Central Instance is the one that have the ENQUE process, the enque process control the locks on the Database to keep the data consistent... a Dialong instance does not have an ENQ process...
