I am new to java development and I want to generate a java proxy for a correspong BAPI. What is the process to do it using NET weaver.

You can use the SAP Enterrpise Connector from NWDS. You can find the doc here: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/11/e2bc3d9ecc6b3be10000000a114084/frameset.htm
But you may also consider other options such as external services with CAF.
