The material master is designed to let u enter your own material number and not generate it. LSMW itself doesn't generate anything, it only does what u define in mapping or in translations/usr defined routines, so u have to do it yourself (by calling FM or whatever).
Pls note that many companies/organizations define rules for their material numbers - like divide to ranges for mat.groups/types, begin with letters etc., this way it's easier to work with them afterwards (tis is one of the main reasons why u can enter an external mat.No.), so u might want to consider that.
