what is the differance b/w SLD & TMS?
Can any 1 explain the when we use SLD/TMS?

You're question is rather vague; I assume you are referring to populating SMSY with system data and not transporting requests.
If that is the case then the answer is use the SLD if you have it or know how to set it up. The SLD is the work of the devil, it's a pain in the butt but once you get used to it it has the most accurate data. If you are ever going to use XI then you will be required to have an SLD.
Hi,
TMS has the practical purpose in change management. It's the backbone for SAP logistics i.e. change requests transportation.
SLD on the other hand is a repository of information about the customer landscape.
Either of them can be used while configuring SolMan.
Although SLD is preferred, why, I'm not sure either. May be we should start separate thread for that
