Hi,
I have basic doubt. From 3.5 to 7.0, there came a lot of changes and one of the most proclaimed one is the change in Updat Rule/Transfer Rule to Transformations.
Why is this change and what is the exact change in that? Please let me know in simple terms as, wherever I read, I get to know only about the change, but nowhere the exact reason for the change is mentioned.
I would also like to know ODS->DSO and about DTPs.
Also, why do we need to load to PSA first in 7.0.
Regards,
Sam.....
new NW2004s Data flow
R/3---->PSA only (using Infopackage) for all the Loads -Mandatory
PSA -
>ODS/Cube -->load using DTP ,create transformation first
no Datamart architecture in NW2004s
so ODS -
>Cube load using DTP ,creating transformation first
Once loaded to PSA in DTP you have the option of FULL or DELTA ,full loads all the data from PSA and DELTA loads only the last load of PSA.

Pre-requisite-
You have used transformations to define the data flow between the source and target object.

The ETL process has been changed inn 7.0, rather it is simplified comapre to 3.5.
The exact chnage is this is that direct mapping from DS to datatarget is possible with the help oftransformation. No Tr, UP needed. So so intermidiate steps has been removed.
PSA is mandotory in 7.0 because of that fact that it stores the data temporaraliry and even if further load fails, no need to go to R/3 again to retrieved data. It can always be retrieved from PSA. So performancewise, loadwise and timewise it is good.
For DSO, refer to https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/7168. [original link is broken]
DTP in simple terms, it acts like infopackge in 3.5.
